PIease donate to Pug 911 and help Vallarta pugs!
At Pug 911 Rescue, our mission is to find the best possible homes for every pug in our care. Due to the unique needs and temperament of the pug breed, we have established the following adoption requirements to ensure their safety, health, and happiness.
1. Securely Fenced Backyard
A securely fenced backyard is required for homes with outdoor space.
Fencing must be in good condition with no gaps or holes; minimum height of 4 feet.
Invisible or electric fences are not accepted due to the risk of injury and inability to prevent intrusions.
2. Indoor-Only Pets
Pugs must be kept indoors as they are a brachycephalic breed (short-nosed) and are highly sensitive to heat, cold, and humidity.
Outdoor housing is not permitted under any circumstances.
3. Climate Control
Adopters must have air conditioning in their home to prevent overheating during warm months.
Pugs can suffer from heatstroke easily and must be kept in a temperature-controlled environment.
4. Supervised Outdoor Time
Pugs may only be outside for short, supervised periods and must never be left outdoors unattended, especially in extreme weather.
5. No Long Periods Alone
Pugs are social animals and may suffer from separation anxiety.
They should not be left alone for extended periods on a regular basis.
6. Vetting and Preventative Care
All pugs must be provided with annual veterinary checkups, vaccinations, heartworm prevention, and flea/tick control.
Proof of current or past vet care may be required during the application process.
7. Children in the Home
Homes with children are welcome, but children must be taught how to interact safely and respectfully with dogs.
Adult supervision is required when children and dogs are together.
8. Other Pets
If there are existing pets in the home, a meet-and-greet will be required to ensure compatibility.
All existing pets must be spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations.
9. Home Visit & Reference Check
A video conference is required as part of the approval process.
Personal and veterinary references will be contacted.
10. Return Policy
If at any point you are unable to keep your adopted pug, they must be returned to Pug 911 Rescue or an approved local pug rescue.
Rehoming through private individuals is not allowed.
